This is an example (written by people wanting to give students an exemplar of excellence) of what a speech about school could sound like. Obviously the pronunication is good, as is the accuracy of the language. What makes this Excellence though, is the development, even within just 1min40. The phrases ' ganz in der Naehe vom Stadtzentrum' 'weil mein Lehrer die Stunden sehr interessant macht' 'um Spass zu haben und um fit zu werden' 'aber dieses Jahr hatte ich keine Lust mehr' 'deshalb' 'natuerlich klasse' and 'wenn ich in der 13. Klasse bin...' are all pretty good, but you can easily do this well and better. You can add 'obwohl' and a relative clause etc.
This speech focuses on
1. the school itself
2. Timetable
3. Subject
4. After school activities
5. Something that happened recently and intention for the future.

The connection with an Achievement Objective is pretty slight here, with only that last sentence relating to 'immediate plans and intentions'.
You can do way better than this. You can add intentions with your subject choices for next year, as well sport choices, or put what you want to do when you leave school.
As far as problems and solutions goes (the other AO), you can put what subjects you don't like and that you will not do them next year, or make suggestions about lessons or the school eg: the uniform should be warmer, or the lessons should be more interesting, or that the classrooms should be more colourful or that the school should buy more computers...

1. Listen to the text from a Year 11 student. Do you understand it all?

In the year 11 class.
They Learn English, German, Science, Sport and Maths.
They have learnt German for 3 years.
Their best subject is German because it's fun.
Their favourite subject is sport it's interesting and
I don't like English because of writing adn reading

In final two years I learn german, Sport, biology, chemistry and maths

2. Once you've listened to track 1 a few times, open this document and read the written version of the text in the middle of the page. Hopefully any blanks have been filled in at this stage. Can you write your own school paragraph using the text to help you, and the sentence beginnings on the sheet?

Ich bin in der elften klasse. Ich lerne Mathe, Naturwiseenshaft, Englisch, Sport, Deutsch und geschichte
. Mein lieblingsfach ist Deutsch weil es interessant ist. Mein Bestes fach ist Englisch. Dieses Fach ist spass macht. In der oberstufe m​ochte ich, Englisch, Deutsch, Biologie, Journalismus, Mathe und . Dieses Jahr ich Deutsch bei Frau Watts, die sehr sympathisch ist.

5. On this track I'm being someone who hates all my subjects. Can you listen to it and work out what I think of each subject? This should be pretty easy.

9. Here's another longer text about school and going into a bit more detail about daily routine and future plans. It's quite tricky but I'm sure you will be able to answer most of the questions on the sheet I gave you, or else a copy is here on the wiki.

11. This is a text about someone's bad day at school. Number the pictures I gave you so they match what you hear in the track.


12. Here's the transcript of the bad day at school. Make sure you understand it all. Ask questions in the discussion part or use the dictionary link.



13. That last text was in the past tense. You have to have this sorted by the end of the year, that means, getting it right pretty much every time. Where are all the past tense verbs in the text above? Find them all and work out if they take haben or sein (if they are perfect tense). Some of the verbs are imperfect past tense which means there is no haben or sein verb. One example is war. It just means was obviously. Instead of war, you could write bin gewesen or ist gewesen but no-on ever says that in German anymore. Everyone always says war. The other one that no-one says in the perfect tense anymore is habe gehabt or hat gehabt etc cos that just sounds random. Too many habe words in there. Everyone just says hatte. (had)
Here's a sentence for you to write in German then....

Last year I had Maths with Mrs [insert any name here] and it was boring, but this year I have maths with Mr [insert name here] and now maths is my favourite subject.

That's such a way better sentence than something boring like 'Maths is my favourite subject" To get excellence you need to spin the yarn out and add all this detail.
Using the photos for an inspirational starting point, write about what you like and don't like about your school.
eg: About the school uniform I find everything / nothing / the shirt / the shorts / the socks / the jersey good / not good. It should be another colour / It should be warmer / the shoes are not comfortable etc....
About the school I find the new gymnasium good, because it is more modern and bigger than the old gymnasium.

I don't like the old classrooms. Especially the German classroom is old and grey boring. It should be more colourful and interesting and modern. We should have computers in our classroom. Next year we will have new classrooms. I think that's good.

I reckon you can write those sentences, if you think about it a bit. Have a go on your paper and ask me questions as they arise. work out how to send me a message without anyone else seeing (reply to the message I sent you last week) and then everyone will have to think to complete this task, instead of just waiting for the answer.

Was findest du gut an der Schuluniform? Wie war sie vorher? Was findest du nicht gut an der Schuluniform? Wie sollte sie sein?

Eg: About the school uniform I find the colour of the shirt not good. Before we had white shirts and I like white better than blue.

I don't like the shirt for girls. It doesn't fit and is either too big or too small. The shirt should fit better. Das Hemd für die Mädchen gefällt mir nicht. Es passt nicht und ist entweder zu groβ oder zu klein. Das Hemd soll besser passen.

Before the girls were allowed to wear trousers. Now we are only allowed to wear the skirt. I am of the opinion that we should be allowed to wear trousers or a skirt.

I find that the jersey is not warm enough. The jersey should be thicker.
Ich finde, dass der Pullover nicht warm genug ist. Der Pullover sollte dicker und wärmer sein.
